Republika Srpska welcomed a total of 186,698 tourists during the first five months of this year, who recorded 466,487 overnight stays — representing a 3.7% increase in arrivals and a 1.2% increase in overnight stays compared to the same period last year, according to the Tourism Organization of Srpska.
“The number of overnight stays in mountain destinations remained at the same level as last year,” said Sanela Šimun, public relations officer at the Tourism Organization.
She highlighted that spa destinations recorded a 3.5% increase in overnight stays, while other types of tourist destinations — such as those with natural, cultural-historical, river or lake attractions — saw a modest rise of 0.9%.
Tourists stayed an average of 2.5 days during their visits in the January–May period.
As in previous years, the majority of visitors came from neighboring countries — Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Montenegro — alongside domestic tourists. Among other international markets, notable numbers of guests arrived from Turkey, Germany, Austria, China, and Italy.
When it comes to types of destinations, domestic tourists recorded the highest number of overnight stays in “other” tourist places — followed by spa resorts, mountain destinations, and locations that do not fall into any specific category but offer accommodation services.
“Foreign tourists, on the other hand, mostly chose spa destinations, followed by other tourist areas and mountain resorts,” Šimun added.
