STRUGGLE FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE: THE STORY OF THE TOT-DOKIĆ FAMILY

The Tot-Dokić family lives in the northern part of Banat on the outskirts of the village of Mokrin. The house they live in consists of a small kitchen and one room where all eight of them sleep.

- I never thought I would get married so early. Difficult conditions and fate forced me, so I left school and dedicated myself to motherhood. Unfortunately, things aren't great here either. Our house is a huge problem, and I'm most afraid that the dampness will affect the health of my children, says Vesna, who in her early twenties already has six children.

The children are well-mannered, kindness simply radiates from their faces, and it's clear that they are diligently cared for, regardless of the circumstances. Their house is adjacent to a barn where they have nine cows.

- We live off the sale of milk, so we're not hungry. Nenad and I love doing this, and so do the children. He, of course, often goes to work elsewhere. He's very hardworking, always going out to earn even a small amount so our children can have. We're not eligible for social assistance or child benefits because we have a registered agricultural farm and exceed some threshold, despite having six children and despite the condition of the house. Maybe we would get help if we just sat idly by, Vesna emphasizes disappointedly.

This family is struggling to provide all the conditions for a normal life for their children, but they need help.
