At the invitation of the leadership of the Russian city of Shuya, a delegation from the Municipality of Eastern Ilidža, led by Mayor Marinko Božović, visited Russia to sign a Twinning Agreement between this municipality and the city of Shuya in the Ivanovo region.
The aim of the cooperation agreement is to more effectively utilize the economic, scientific, technical, and cultural potential of the regions of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Srpska, as well as to promote stronger friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
According to the agreement, the cooperation between the city of Shuya and Eastern Ilidža will encompass the development of business relations in the fields of economy, tourism, sports, culture, education, scientific-technical activities, and research.
Mayor of Eastern Ilidža, Marinko Božović, expressed his gratitude to the Mayor of Shuya, Natalya Koragina, and her associates.
By signing this agreement, the leadership of Eastern Ilidža expresses its readiness to collaborate with Eastern as well as Western countries. The goal of the local community is to establish partnerships that benefit not only Eastern Ilidža but the entire Republic of Srpska.
"Our institutions in the fields of culture, education, and economy will implement cooperation that is significant for both local communities in the future. Eastern Ilidža is open to both the East and the West. In addition to visits to twin cities in Serbia, this is our municipality's first twinning agreement with a local community from a country in the eastern part of our continent," stated Mayor Božović.
During the visit to Russia, the Eastern Ilidža delegation toured the administrative headquarters of Shuya, numerous factories, a church, a library, schools, cultural societies, and city landmarks.
In addition to Mayor Božović, the Eastern Ilidža delegation included the President of the Eastern Ilidža Municipal Assembly, Slaviša Močević, writer Željko Pržulj, Serbian language professor Jadranka Regoje, and priest Dražen Delić.
