Although the true, idyllic winter atmosphere still awaits snowfall, festive lights, decorated squares, and illuminated streets are already bringing warmth and awakening the excitement of the holiday season.
In
anticipation of New Year and Christmas celebrations, Foča has adorned its
central city square as a gathering place and a setting for unforgettable
moments for local residents and visitors alike.
The
traditional event “Winter in Foča” officially began with a three-day New Year
Creative Fair held at King Peter Square. This year’s program once again offers
a rich lineup of events designed to brighten and enrich the holiday season for
the people of Foča.
The
“Winter in Foča” program includes a creative arts fair, painting and historical
exhibitions, spiritual evenings, Christmas and children’s festivities, the
celebration of Republic Day, the traditional Epiphany cross swimming, and a
football tournament, among many other activities.
The extensive winter program, which will last nearly two months, officially starts on Monday, December 15, with the New Year Creative Fair at King Peter Square.
This will be followed by the exhibition “Colors of the Balkans” by Olga Kopeina
at the Center for Culture and Information, as well as a New Year indoor
football tournament at the City Sports Hall.
The
“Čika Jova Zmaj” Kindergarten will organize the “Winter Magic” theatrical
performance, along with a Children’s New Year celebration and a Winter Fair at
the city square.
During
the Christmas holidays, traditional customs such as the breaking of the česnica
will once again be observed, while the Epiphany cross swimming will take place
on the Ćehotina and Bistrica rivers. Republic Day will be marked under the
slogan “The Vow of Our Ancestors, the Pride of Their Descendants.”
The
Center for Culture and Information will host the “Christmas Joys” program,
showcasing Orthodox customs and traditions, as well as spiritual evenings
dedicated to the journey of the miraculous icon of the Čajniče Beauty. The
Museum “Old Herzegovina” will present the exhibition “Karađorđe” from the RTS
Gallery.
“Winter
in Foča” will conclude on February 6 at the City Theatre with a ceremonial selection
of the best athletes of the year.
