Members of the special diving unit from the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic are currently engaged in the search and removal of explosive remnants from Lake Bileća, confirmed Dragan Kos, Assistant Director of the Republic Civil Protection Administration of Republika Srpska.
Speaking to reporters, Kos emphasized that this marks ten years of ongoing cooperation between the Czech Republic and Republika Srpska in underwater demining operations. This year, priority has been given to Lake Bileća.
“Specific locations within the lake have been identified as critical and are now being cleared,” Kos explained, adding that similar operations are planned for next year in the city of Zvornik.
Representatives of the Czech diving unit stated that they arrived in Bileća last week and have since established a base near the lake. They are currently focused on locating submerged ammunition, and have already discovered several unexploded ordnances.
