GARDEN AT THE DOORSTEP – HOMEGROWN VEGETABLES FROM RASTOKA NEAR RIBNIK

Garden at the Doorstep is a family-based agricultural initiative from the village of Rastoka in the municipality of Ribnik, combining tradition, young producers, and modern farming. What started on a small family plot has grown into a concept that delivers freshly harvested vegetables, medicinal and culinary herbs straight to customers’ doorsteps the very same day.

At a time when the term “organic” is often used as a marketing label, Garden at the Doorstep from Ribnik brings the focus back to what truly matters – trust, a household mindset, and land cultivated with care.

This garden is not urban, not trendy, and not borrowed. It is truly homegrown. It began when young family members shyly asked their grandfather to lend them a piece of land so they could try something of their own. From that moment, a story was born that connects the youngest generation with bold ideas, parents with understanding, and elders with the wisdom to let go. All of it is guided by one principle – a household code.

FROM GARLIC TO A MODERN COOPERATIVE

The beginnings were modest. In the village of Rastoka near Ribnik, they first grew what everyone in the household already knew well – garlic. Together with selected partners and the registered cooperative “Domaćin”, they soon became one of the most modern initiatives in the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina when it comes to this crop.

Encouraged by strong production results and fast placement on the market, which constantly demanded diversity and innovation, the team developed the concept of Garden at the Doorstep.

WHY THE NAME “GARDEN AT THE DOORSTEP”?

The household threshold has always marked the border of our first steps, our first community, and our small world. It is the place from which we leave and to which we return. Baskets once crossed it full, and someone was always waiting behind it.

That feeling of belonging, warmth, and safety is woven into the idea of Garden at the Doorstep – where food travels directly from the garden to the customer’s doorstep.

FRESH VEGETABLES AND HERBS FROM RIBNIK

On the same piece of land once borrowed from a grandfather, today – guided by professional knowledge, applied science, and modern production systems – they grow a wide selection of:

- fresh vegetables,

- medicinal herbs,

- culinary herbs.

Harvesting is done in the early morning hours, without rush and within optimal technological windows, so that the products reach customers’ doorsteps the very same day. That is why the products of Garden at the Doorstep truly deserve the label – homegrown.

TRUST AND OPEN PRODUCTION

Garden at the Doorstep is not only about selling vegetables, but about building relationships. Customers can follow production through social networks, or even better – visit the garden in person in Rastoka, Ribnik municipality. The goal is simple: people should know where their food comes from and how it is grown.

THE VISION OF GARDEN AT THE DOORSTEP

The vision of the project is to establish sustainable, independent and cooperative vegetable production in rural areas of north-western Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, based on innovative technologies whose main task is:

- preserving natural resources,

- protecting biodiversity,

- guaranteeing food safety of final products.

GARDEN AT THE DOORSTEP – MORE THAN AGRICULTURE

Garden at the Doorstep is not just an agricultural project. It is a story about young people staying in the countryside, about returning to roots, and about food that travels with care – from the garden straight to the doorstep.
