The town of Nevesinje is set to host the central celebration marking the 150th anniversary of the Nevesinje Rebellion (Nevesinjska puška) on July 6th, a historic event considered the spark that ignited the uprising against Ottoman rule in the Balkans.
The commemoration will gather top officials from the Republic of Srpska and Serbia, high-ranking clergy of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and numerous guests from around the world.
The day will begin with a Divine Hierarchical Liturgy served by Patriarch Porfirije, along with bishops and clergy, at the Church of the Ascension of the Lord starting at 8:00 AM.
The official ceremony will continue at 11:00 AM on Freedom Square, where dignitaries will address the public. The program will feature performances by the Stanislav Binički Artistic Ensemble from Belgrade, as well as renowned actors, folk and ethno groups, and traditional gusle players.
At 12:45 PM, a memorial service will be held at the completed Memorial Complex in Krekovi, followed by the laying of wreaths in honor of the fallen.
On the eve of the main event, Freedom Square will host the premiere of the docudrama film "Nevesinjska puška", offering a historical and artistic portrayal of the rebellion.
This significant historical jubilee is jointly organized and funded by the Republic of Srpska and Serbia, highlighting the lasting importance of the Nevesinje Rebellion in the collective memory of the Serbian people.
