"UNSKA LAĐA" – A VENETIAN-STYLE GONDOLA EXPERIENCE IN BIHAĆ

In a move set to redefine the tourist experience in Bihać, Director of the Development Agency of the Una-Sana Canton, Sanel Zulić, has unveiled a unique new project: the "Unska lađa", a romantic gondola-inspired boat ride along the city's historical canal – modeled after the iconic Venetian gondolas.

The scenic route will begin at the symbolic landmark known as “The Heart” – celebrating Bihać as the “city in love with its river” – and will continue past the area known as Beton to the city park near Hotel Paviljon. Designed to cater to tourists, couples, families, and newlyweds, the journey will offer an unforgettable blend of romance, tradition, and storytelling.

The boat ride concludes near the second bridge and the recognizable Austro-Hungarian building of the former power station. What makes the experience even more unique is its setting: a canal that once served as a medieval defensive moat, now repurposed as a historical waterway. It’s more than a ride – it’s a voyage through history.

After the ride, visitors can take a romantic stroll to Bihać’s beloved “Island of Love,” home to the famous Girl from Una sculpture and the symbolic “Love Lock Bridge,” where couples can commemorate their bond by locking their love.

“We want to create a new attraction in the heart of Bihać – a fusion of history, tradition, and romance,” explained Zulić. “Our vision is to offer visitors a ride on the Unska lađa as a wedding, family, or tourist experience, enhanced by the presence of a skipper, tour guide, and photographer.” He also highlighted on his Facebook page that this idea brings Bihać its own version of a Venetian gondola.

The initiative will be supported by local rafting agencies, the Bihać Tourist Board, and Una National Park, who will collaboratively determine pricing and additional features – including audio-visual effects during the ride, guided walks along the promenade, and professional photography.

The Una-Sana Canton Development Agency is fully committed to supporting all partners involved in the project. The public will be informed in due time about the date of the inaugural ride.

Bihać is ready to set sail on a new wave of tourism – and it promises to be a journey to remember.
