GIANT PUMPKINS DECORATE FIELDS ALONG THE DRINA RIVER

Fields in the Drina River valley, in the municipality of Foča, have once again come alive this autumn with the vibrant colors of giant pumpkins. Among the most impressive is the farm of Mile Višnjić in the village of Donja Jošanica, where some of the pumpkins weigh up to 70 kilograms.

At the very confluence of the Jošanica and Drina rivers, dozens of pumpkins in bright shades of yellow, red, and orange capture the eye and showcase the beauty of the season.

With proper fertilization—specifically with sheep manure in this case—and regular watering, even sandy soil near the Drina can produce an abundant harvest.

But pumpkins aren’t the only success story on Mile’s land.

His potatoes and other vegetables have also yielded generously this year, and the fruit trees are bending under the weight of their crops. Thanks to his flock of sheep, Mile always has a steady supply of high-quality natural fertilizer.

The pumpkin vines, stretching over 10 meters in length, have taken over the entire field, even creeping up onto a nearby barn. Ignoring all borders, the vines have made their way onto the neighboring property as well. Laughing, Mile says he’s happy to share the harvest with his neighbors.
