LAKE KLINJE – A HIDDEN GEM OF HERZEGOVINA

Lake Klinje, located near Gacko, is one of the most beautiful natural treasures of Herzegovina.

What makes it truly special is the oldest arch dam in the Balkans, built from Gacko stone and volcanic ash from Mount Vesuvius. This historic structure is now a cultural and historical monument under state protection.

Originally created to irrigate the Gacko field during dry periods, the lake is fed by the Vrba, Dramešinka, and Žanjevica rivers. Its scenic location along the road to Trebinje and Dubrovnik makes it a perfect rest stop for travelers.
