Located near Mrkonjić Grad along the Jajce-Bihać road, Balkana features two artificial lakes—Large and Small Lake—within the Balkana tourist and recreation center.

These two lakes, created in the 1970s, captivate visitors year-round with their oval shape and crystal-clear water. They’re especially stunning in autumn, when the landscape comes alive with vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow.

Fed by mountain streams Cjepalo and Skakavac, as well as sublacustrine springs, Balkana’s lakes are rich in the unique flora and fauna of the region.

Large Lake is particularly popular among fishing enthusiasts, home to various fish species including amur, tench, and trout, while Small Lake offers a tranquil retreat for anyone seeking a peaceful escape in a natural setting.

Autumn at Balkana is a dream for photography lovers. The autumn colors, serene lakes, and reflections of mountain streams create a perfect scene for the camera. Pack your camera and head to Lake Balkana, where you’ll capture memories to last all year long.
