Imagine sitting comfortably by the window of a warm train cutting through the snowy landscapes of the far north, while outside unfolds one of the most enchanting natural spectacles on Earth.
Norway has long been known as one of the world’s
top destinations for witnessing the Aurora Borealis, but now this experience is
reaching an entirely new level. A special night-time panoramic train has been
launched, taking passengers straight into the heart of the Arctic wilderness.
THE
FIRST STOP: THE NORWEGIAN CITY OF NARVIK
The
journey begins in Narvik, a city surrounded by steep mountains and fjords in
Norway’s far north. The train travels along the historic Ofoten Line, built
more than 100 years ago through extremely challenging terrain. Today, this
route is considered one of the most beautiful railway lines in Europe, but it
is especially captivating at night, when the sky above the Arctic Circle glows
in shades of green, purple, and blue.
A
UNIQUE QUEST FOR ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST FASCINATING PHENOMENA
“Join
us on this unique journey along the historic Ofoten Railway, far away from the
city’s light pollution. This is not just a train ride — it is a one-of-a-kind
search for one of the most spectacular natural phenomena, the Aurora Borealis.
Surrounded by the dark night sky, we will have the chance to witness the polar
lights,” say representatives of the Norwegian Travel agency, where passengers
can find all additional information and purchase tickets.
“Our
first stop will be the Swedish border village of Bjørnfjell. After a short
break, we continue toward Katterat, a mountain station situated 373 meters
above sea level. There, we will leave the train and step into the silent Arctic
night, gathered around a campfire under the open sky,” the agency adds.
During
the trip, the guide serves warm drinks and fresh pastries to passengers, who together
await the appearance of the northern lights. After the gathering, the group
boards the train again and returns to Narvik, hoping to take with them not only
photographs but memories of an experience that lasts a lifetime.
A
MAJOR HIGHLIGHT OF NORWEGIAN TOURISM
For
years, the Aurora Borealis has been one of Norway’s strongest tourist
attractions, with organized weekend tours for northern-lights hunting becoming
a global trend. This train, however, offers something truly special — a feeling
of traveling through space and time, where nature takes center stage and humans
become silent witnesses to its power and beauty.
The
combination of dramatic Arctic scenery, a historic route cutting through
northern wilderness, and the natural light show dancing across the sky makes
this journey one of the most extraordinary experiences available in Europe this
winter.
