SKADAR LAKE: A PHOTO JOURNEY THROUGH MONTENEGRO’S NATURAL PARADISE

Skadar Lake is one of the most significant natural treasures of this country, and it’s worth visiting at least once in a lifetime. It’s also a great idea for a slightly different summer vacation in Montenegro in 2024.

First and foremost, here you will see various fascinating wildlife in their natural habitat. Skadar Lake is home to over 280 species of birds, making it one of the most important ornithological reserves in Europe. Birds like pelicans, herons, eagles, and many others can be seen in this ecosystem, and in addition, the lake hosts endemic fish species.

This lake is vast, covering over 370 square kilometers, and is surrounded by spectacular landscapes. With its calm waters, green islands, and mountain peaks in the background, it offers beautiful scenery and ideal photo opportunities.

There are also smaller waterfalls along the lake's shore, which further enhance the experience. In some parts of the shore, you’ll find marshes and river deltas, which are particularly interesting for bird watching. Around the lake, there are trails for walking and cycling, allowing you to explore the coastline and surrounding areas. Nearby, there are viewpoints that offer panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains.

You can take a boat ride, kayak, or canoe, and you can even try your hand at fishing.

Around the lake, there are several villages and monasteries that represent the rich cultural and historical heritage of Montenegro.
