Traveling with children is often anything but a “relaxing holiday.” Between long airport queues, carrying heavy equipment and strollers, even a short weekend getaway can quickly become stressful for parents.
However,
with the Easter and summer holidays approaching, the platform LateRooms has
released its latest “Family Breaks Index,” highlighting the most
family-friendly cities across Europe.
The
index ranks destinations based on how convenient they are for parents with
babies and young children, taking into account key factors such as proximity to
airports, stroller-friendly streets, the number of child-friendly attractions,
and the availability of family accommodation.
A City Designed for Children
The
Danish capital, Copenhagen, ranked first as the most pleasant destination for a
family city break—and for good reason.
The
city is practically designed with children in mind. From the airport, the city
center can be reached by metro in just 15 minutes, a major advantage for
parents traveling with tired kids. With an impressive walkability score of 99
out of 100, most attractions are easily accessible on foot.
Iconic
spots such as Tivoli Gardens—which inspired Disneyland—and the colorful harbor
of Nyhavn make the city feel like a storybook for children.
Perfect for an Active Weekend
Second
place went to Berlin, named Europe’s capital of children’s entertainment. With
more than 200 family-friendly activities, from the famous Berlin Zoological
Garden to interactive technology museums, the German capital is ideal for a
dynamic weekend.
Barcelona
ranked third, offering the perfect combination of beach relaxation and city
tourism. With over 400 attractions for children, it provides the widest range
of activities on the list—allowing parents to combine architectural sightseeing
with afternoons in the sand.
Other Top Family-Friendly Destinations
The
top 10 list also includes Florence for those who enjoy relaxed cultural routes,
Amsterdam for short and easy trips, and Valencia for families who love outdoor
activities.
Meanwhile,
Basel stands out as the best compact destination where everything is within
reach, Krakow offers the best value for money, and Prague is described as a
“fairytale setting for children.”
Finally, Vienna is recognized for having some of the richest and most engaging children’s museums in Europe, according to the report.
