In recent months, we have come to know Jan as a Serbian son-in-law, and many were unaware that he has Serbian origins in addition to his Slovenian heritage.

In an extensive interview given to a Slovenian media outlet ahead of the match with Serbia, Oblak spoke about his mother, who is from the Republic of Srpska, and relatives who still live there.

- My mother is from the Republic of Srpska, and I have a grandmother there whom I gladly visit every year. I also have cousins, uncles, and aunts. This means a lot to me. In Slovenia, I have family on my father's side, and in the Republic of Srpska, I have family on my mother's side, and I am proud of both. In Škofja Loka, I lived in a neighborhood with many people from other republics of the former Yugoslavia, and this is part of me; for me, it is normal. I always visited my grandmother in the Republic of Srpska or my grandmother in Slovenia with the same joy - it was never a question of who I preferred, for me, it's all mine, and it doesn't matter to me, Jan explained, reports Mondo.
