The promotion of the unique Zmijanje embroidery, inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2014, continues in Serbia.
The
exhibition “Zmijanje Embroidery – World Intangible Heritage” was officially
opened on December 29, 2025, at the Gallery of the National Museum in Zaječar.
Visitors will be able to view the exhibition until February 2, 2026.
Through
a carefully curated selection of traditional items, photographs, and
documentation, visitors are given the opportunity to explore the rich
technique, symbolism, and spiritual meaning of this exceptional form of folk
artistic expression.
Representatives
of the Museum of the Republic of Srpska, whose curators prepared the
exhibition, emphasized that the display aims to preserve and promote the
cultural identity and craftsmanship of the Zmijanje region, while bringing this
valuable heritage closer to a wider audience.
The
exhibition in Zaječar continues the international promotion of Zmijanje
embroidery as a powerful symbol of cultural continuity, creativity, and
identity.
