EPIC HEROES COME ALIVE THROUGH GUSLE IN KRAVICA

In the village of Kravica, Bratunac, an evening of epic poetry accompanied by gusle was held as part of the “Transfiguration Days of Spirituality” festival. The audience enjoyed verses dedicated to heroes and events ranging from the Battle of Kosovo and Miloš Obilić to Gavrilo Princip and modern Serbian heroes.

The event featured members of the Gusle Society and the Gusle School “Saint Peter of Dabar-Bosna” from Pale – Zoran Golubović, Rajko Pelemiš, and Dušan Pejić – as well as gusle players Mlađen Ubiparipović, Vitomir Arsenić, and Vaso Đondović.

Participants, poetry enthusiasts, and gusle lovers were greeted by the priest Dejan Đuričić, who noted that the “Transfiguration Days of Spirituality” aim to preserve the most beautiful Serbian customs, traditions, epic poetry, and the gusle as a unique sacred instrument.

Guslar Dušan Pejić, a doctoral student of Serbian language and literature, shared quotes about epic poetry from renowned Serbian and world personalities. Pejić emphasized that the gusle have always united, inspired, and motivated Serbs, as was evident last night on the plateau in front of the Kravica place of worship.

This marks the fourth time that the Kravica Church Parish has organized an evening of epic gusle poetry for the Transfiguration holiday, with plans to continue this tradition in the years ahead.
