The Memorial House of Milica Babić Andrić, wife of Serbian Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić, has officially opened its doors to the public in Šamac. Visitors now have the opportunity to explore the life and work of the first professional costume designer in Serbia and former Yugoslavia.
Milanka Blagojević, Director of the Šamac Cultural Center, told SRNA that the exhibition has been enriched with materials provided by the Belgrade City Museum, the National Theatre in Belgrade, and the Museum of Theatrical Arts of Serbia.
"Of special value are the costume replicas created by Duška Vujmilović Kukavica, along with Ivo Andrić’s will, the couple’s marriage certificate, and photographs from the Nobel Prize award ceremony," said Blagojević.
She noted that major regional TV outlets have already produced several features from the Memorial House, and it has been visited by prominent actors and students from various schools, including high schools from Gradiška, Prnjavor, and Banja Luka.
"In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Memorial House hosts workshops and launches new projects, making it a vibrant and dynamic cultural hub — an inspiration for generations to come," Blagojević emphasized.
