The President of the City Assembly emphasized that Petar Popović Pecija is an important historical figure who must not be forgotten, and that Gradiška devotes great attention to honoring distinguished personalities from its territory.

“Petar Popović Pecija was a Serbian hero who lost his life in the Gradiška area, specifically in the village of Gašnica. That is why he deserves to be remembered here with this bust,” said Renata Obradović Popović.

According to her, the citizens of Gradiška should be proud of their history, and the city will continue to pay tribute to significant figures from its past.

Those present had the opportunity to learn the basic facts about Pecija’s life.

“Petar Pecija was the leader of the Serbian uprising for liberation in 1875. He can be considered a forerunner of the story of Mali Beograd. Among those who fought alongside him were Jovo Čubrilović, Simo Malić, and well-known insurgents Simo Stefanović and Jakov Bajić, whose graves are located in Brestovčina. These graves were restored by the Gradiška Heritage Museum,” highlighted the director of the Heritage Museum, Bojan Vujčić.
