The composition "My Republic", authored by Mladen Matović, was declared the anthem of the Republic of Srpska by the National Assembly of RS on July 15, 2008. Its constitutionality was confirmed by the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Srpska on December 22 of the same year.
The anthem was performed for the first time on January 9, 2009, during a ceremonial academy in the Concert Hall of the Banski Dvor in Banja Luka, as part of the celebration of Republic Day.
On June 20, 2007, the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina ruled that the previous anthem, "Bože pravde" (God of Justice), was unconstitutional. The National Assembly was then called upon to adopt a new anthem.
An attempt by the parliament to retain the melody of "Bože pravde" without lyrics was challenged before the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Srpska.
