HOW DID LJUBIVOJE RŠUMOVIĆ DISCOVER HIS HERZEGOVINIAN HERITAGE?
Gacko has always been known for its educated and intelligent people, whose names have brought fame to Herzegovina.
However, it is little known that our town is also the birthplace of the Serbian writer and poet, prominent children's author, Ljubiša Ršumović.
Describing how he searched for his roots, he says he listened to a radio program where the guest was the master engraver Miša Okiljević.
"Master Miša tells that he comes from the surroundings of Gacko, from the village of Platice, and that there are Okiljević families all over Yugoslavia, that one lineage went to Zlatibor and that they are now Ršumovići."
About the origin of the surname, Master Miša says: - In the 18th century, there were two brothers Okiljević, Stefan and Marko, who killed a Turkish man from Gacko and were forced to flee to Serbia, to Zlatibor.
The Turks were searching for them for revenge and said that they had caused "ršum in the family!", as Ršumović recounts in the story "Quest for Origin" from the book "Three Knots on an Eyelash", as reported by the Tourist Organization of Gacko.
