Students from Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, are making waves with their advocacy for inclusive societies. Recently awarded for their outstanding video production on the occasion of International Roma Day, these students are sending a powerful message of acceptance and compassion.
Their winning video, titled "From the Other Side," sheds light on the life of a young Romani girl named Selin, whose daily experiences starkly contrast those of her peers from different backgrounds. Selin dreams of basic joys like literacy, birthday celebrations, and education, aspirations often taken for granted by others. Despite facing societal stigma, Selin yearns for acknowledgment and equal opportunities.
The students, upon encountering Selin on the streets of their city, embarked on a mission to engage with her. Through small gestures of kindness, they aimed to bridge the gap between communities and challenge prejudice.
Their dedication to social consciousness is further evidenced by their decision to donate their prize money to humanitarian causes, exemplifying a commitment to collective well-being.
Milena Tomić, their class teacher, expresses immense pride in her students' achievements, highlighting their profound impact on societal perceptions and their altruistic endeavors.
Through their initiative, these students are championing a vision of a world where equality knows no boundaries.
