The Cultural and Artistic Society “Janj” from Strojice, near Šipovo, recently took part in a folklore festival in Herceg Novi, bringing the traditional dances and heritage of Janj and the Janj Plateau to the shores of the Adriatic Sea.
"This summer was marked by our performance in Montenegro, right in the heart of Herceg Novi. It was also one of the most beautiful trips we’ve had this year. As always, our traditional Janj costumes attracted great attention from tourists and the local audience," representatives of KUD “Janj” said.
The festival concluded with a large communal kolo dance, where performers and spectators alike joined hands in celebration.
The Janj Plateau, located beneath Mount Vitorog — at the tri-border area of Janj and Šipovo on one side, the Kupres Plateau and Šemenovci on the other, and Glamoč and Hrbljina on the third — has been the birthplace of many well-known individuals.
Even though many have moved abroad, they often return to Janj, the Janj Islands, and the majestic Vitorog, as reflected in the lyrics of a song by the group “Vitorog”: “What can I do when my heart dreams, of my Vitorog and the Janj valley.”
