MTB MARATHON BORIKE 2026: PEDALING THROUGH THE UNTOUCHED NATURE OF ROMANIJA

The last weekend of June in Borike was dedicated to cycling, nature, and positive energy. On June 27, 2026, the MTB Marathon Borike 2026 brought together mountain biking enthusiasts and offered them the opportunity to explore one of the most beautiful regions of eastern Republika Srpska.

Along a 30.5-kilometer route, participants rode through the picturesque landscapes of the Borike area, passing forest trails, gravel roads, mountain plateaus, and traditional villages that preserve the authentic spirit of this remarkable destination.

Riding Through the Heart of Mount Devetak

The marathon route followed the course: Borike – Živaljevići – Sjeversko – Godimilje – Babljak – Crkvine – Prodola – Banovine – Borike.

Every kilometer revealed a new view, from panoramic mountain vistas and vast meadows to dense forests that provided much-needed shade during one of the hottest days of the summer.

Although the route, with 633 meters of total elevation gain, is considered moderately demanding and suitable for a wide range of riders, the extreme heat added an extra challenge. Temperatures exceeded 35°C in some sections, making endurance, proper preparation, and hydration just as important as strength and fitness.

Where Sport Meets Nature and History

One of the highlights of the ride was the stop at Crkvine, home to the Church of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, a site that reflects the rich history of the region dating back to the 13th century.

This unique location offered participants a chance to rest, refresh, and enjoy the peaceful combination of natural beauty and cultural heritage that makes Borike a truly special destination.

The Youngest Participant Won Everyone’s Admiration

A particularly inspiring moment came from a nine-year-old boy from Han Pijesak who successfully completed the entire marathon route. His determination, enthusiasm, and sporting spirit impressed both participants and organizers, becoming one of the most memorable stories of the event.
