GRADIŠKA RETURNS TO THE TIME OF THE ROMANS

Gradiška, the charming town on the banks of the Sava River, is once again preparing to journey back in time with its fourth Roman Festival, organized by AVEnture Gradiška. This year’s edition will take place on September 13, starting at 4 PM in the City Park, with a special focus on art and crafts from ancient Rome.

Participant registrations are now open, and the organizers invite anyone interested in becoming part of this unique Roman story to apply by August 18 via email at aventuregradiska2025@gmail.com.

“This year’s theme is especially engaging and easily attracts visitors of all ages, particularly families with children,” said Bojan Vujinović, City Manager of Gradiška. “Families will have the opportunity to create mosaics, paint together, explore sculpture, and more. Our goal is to help visitors relax and express their creative side.”

During the festival, the sounds of ancient tools—just like those used over 2,000 years ago—will echo through the park, bringing the past vividly to life. As evening falls, the festival atmosphere will shift to relaxation and entertainment with drinks, performances, and music.

The beloved fire show, a traditional highlight of the Roman Festival, will return this year alongside a silk dance performance inspired by Roman mythology. The festival’s Roman tavern, or thermopolium, will host a live concert by a tribute band to Bijelo Dugme from Belgrade, adding a modern touch to the ancient celebration.

Looking ahead, Vujinović expressed AVEnture Gradiška’s ambitions to expand the Roman story and link Gradiška—once known as Servicium—with other historical Roman ports along the Sava River, such as Sisak and Sremska Mitrovica. This would give the festival an international character and symbolically reconnect the ancient roads of Rome.

The Roman Festival is designed for everyone—from the youngest to the oldest. It's a chance to experience history in a creative and interactive way, through workshops, games, exhibitions, and performances.
