The "Čiker" Bicycle Marathon kicks off in Kraljevo on June 23 and concludes in Pale on July 2, after a 10-day ride through the most beautiful landscapes of Serbia and Republika Srpska.
The 400 km route takes cyclists through Guča, Arilje, Zlatibor, Tara, Višegrad, Rogatica, Sokolac, and Pale. The MTBC "Čiker" from Kraljevo, established on October 25, 1996, as a citizens' association, now boasts around 50 members of various ages. Originally formed as a recreational club, it soon added a competitive segment.
Throughout its history, MTBC "Čiker" has achieved significant accolades, including junior champions of FR Yugoslavia, a female champion and runner-up, and a city athlete of Kraljevo. Moreover, a club member secured the 8th place at the Balkan Championships.
Besides its competitive spirit, "Čiker" is also known for organizing multi-day recreational tours. Since 2012, in collaboration with tourist organizations from Serbia and Montenegro, MTBC "Čiker" has been organizing the "ČikerMTBmarathon," which starts in Kraljevo and ends in a city in Montenegro.
The first year’s marathon was part of the IPA project "Sustainable Development of Cycling," which was recognized as the best cross-border cooperation project of 2012, funded by the EU.
The marathon's goal is not only to promote cycling as a sport, means of transport, and a healthy lifestyle but also to showcase the touristic and cultural potentials of the two countries. The route traverses mountainous landscapes, visiting tourist centers, and cultural and other landmarks along the way.
