Instead of tourists visiting just one attraction and continuing their journey after a few hours, the goal is to connect multiple destinations across Republika Srpska into a single tourism story. This is the idea behind the tourism clustering process being implemented by the Ministry of Trade and Tourism of Republika Srpska.
The aim is to create richer and more diverse tourism products, attract more visitors, extend their stays and increase tourism spending, while also involving local communities and businesses more actively in tourism development.
FROM A SINGLE ATTRACTION TO A COMPLETE TOURIST EXPERIENCE
Tourism clustering will be developed according to the “Hub and Spoke” model, connecting larger and well-established tourism centres with smaller towns, rural areas and nearby attractions.
In practice, this means that a major tourism destination can serve as a starting point for exploring several interesting places in its surroundings. Rather than visiting a single attraction, tourists could be offered themed packages and routes combining natural beauty, cultural and historical heritage, gastronomy, adventure tourism and other experiences.
In this way, multiple locations become part of a unified tourism product, allowing the benefits of tourism to extend to smaller communities as well.
MORE EXPERIENCES, LONGER STAYS AND GREATER SPENDING
By connecting tourism potential across different locations, conditions are created for visitors to stay longer in a particular area and explore multiple destinations. This also creates greater opportunities for the development of accommodation, hospitality services, local producers, travel agencies and other businesses.
One of the key goals is a more balanced distribution of tourism flows, ensuring that tourism benefits not only major and already well-known destinations, but also smaller towns, municipalities and rural areas.
WORKSHOPS ALREADY HELD IN FIVE LOCAL COMMUNITIES
The clustering process for the Foča–Višegrad tourism zone has been carried out through workshops and focus groups aimed at identifying local tourism potential and opportunities for connecting attractions and destinations.
Workshops have already been held in Višegrad, Rudo, Čajniče, Foča and Kalinovik.
These meetings explored ways to connect tourism attractions and locations, as well as opportunities to create themed tourism routes and package arrangements that would offer visitors a richer and more comprehensive experience.
A UNIFIED TOURISM STORY FOR EASTERN REPUBLIKA SRPSKA
The ultimate goal is to ensure that the tourism offer is not based solely on individual attractions, but on connecting them into comprehensive products that encourage visitors to stay longer and explore a wider area.
If the tourism potential of Višegrad, Foča, Rudo, Čajniče, Kalinovik and other areas is successfully connected through joint tourism routes and experiences, the Foča–Višegrad tourism zone could develop a more recognisable and competitive tourism product.
