ZMIJANJE THROUGH THREADS AND FLAVOURS: A WORKSHOP DEDICATED TO TRADITION

The National and University Library of the Republic of Srpska will host the “Zmijanje Through Threads and Flavours” workshop on 25 August, dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Zmijanje region.

The workshop will take place in the “Jablan” Hall at 7:00 p.m., offering visitors an opportunity to learn about the significance of Zmijanje embroidery and the traditions of the region through storytelling, heritage and hands-on activities.

ZMIJANJE EMBROIDERY - A TREASURE OF CULTURAL HERITAGE

Zmijanje embroidery is one of the most recognisable symbols of the traditional culture of this region. Its distinctive ornaments and embroidery techniques have been passed down from generation to generation, preserving stories of the life, customs and identity of the people of Zmijanje.

The special value of this tradition lies in the fact that it has not remained merely a part of the past, but continues to live on through the work of people who preserve, study and introduce it to new generations.

THE WORKSHOP WILL BE LED BY SVJETLANA MARKOVIĆ

The “Zmijanje Through Threads and Flavours” workshop will be led by Svjetlana Marković from the “Fotini” Atelier, who has been dedicated to preserving and promoting this valuable tradition for many years.

The name of the workshop symbolically connects two important aspects of traditional life – Zmijanje embroidery and traditional flavours, highlighting how deeply cultural heritage is woven into everyday life.

AN OPPORTUNITY TO DISCOVER AND PRESERVE TRADITION

Programmes such as this are important because they do not preserve tradition merely as a memory, but bring it closer to new generations and encourage its continued transmission.
