BORA STANKOVIĆ’S LITERARY LEGACY REMEMBERED IN DERVENTA

The cultural event “Bora Stanković Days” has opened in Derventa, marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of one of the most important Serbian writers.

Borisav Bora Stanković spent part of 1916 in Derventa, where he was interned during World War I. His stay left an important literary legacy, as two of his short stories, “Ludi Rista” and “Moja želja”, were written in the town.

The event highlights this lesser-known connection between Stanković and Derventa and aims to preserve it as part of the city’s cultural history.

The programme includes lectures on Stanković’s life and work, literary and drama performances, as well as music from the Vranje region, his native area.

Organized by the Branko Radičević Public Library, the event is supported by the City of Derventa, which is also considering installing a memorial plaque dedicated to Stanković’s stay in the city.
