The life of young Banja Luka resident Sergej Stupar changed in an instant. He was only 19 years old when he suffered a serious traffic accident on July 24, 2023, resulting in a traumatic brain injury.

Since then, Sergej has been on a long road to recovery – fighting for every movement, every response and every new sign of progress.

Today, Sergej is in a minimally conscious state and is completely dependent on the assistance and care of others. However, years of medical treatment and intensive rehabilitation have brought progress that gives his family hope and the strength to continue.

Sergej sometimes responds to commands, directs his gaze, has better head control, can stand with the help of a standing frame, and is able to take some food by mouth.

CONTINUING INTENSIVE NEUROREHABILITATION

In May 2026, Sergej underwent deep brain stimulation (DBS) in Zagreb. He now needs to continue intensive and specialized neurorehabilitation.

A humanitarian campaign has therefore been launched to help provide Sergej with further treatments, therapies and rehabilitation, as well as a specialized vehicle adapted for transporting a person in a wheelchair.

For Sergej, such a vehicle is not a luxury. It is essential for safely travelling to therapy sessions, medical examinations, check-ups and rehabilitation.
