ČAJNIČE CULTURAL AND SPORTS FESTIVITIES CELEBRATING THE DORMITION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD

From 9 to 28 August, Čajniče will be a meeting place for sport, culture, tradition and socialising as part of the Velikogospjinske Cultural and Sports Festivities.

The programme offers a wide range of activities for all generations – from a traditional cooking competition, chess, five-a-side football, basketball, volleyball and athletics, to a fishing school and competitions for the youngest participants.

Sport, Socialising and Competition

Sports enthusiasts can look forward to chess and five-a-side football tournaments, 3x3 basketball, volleyball, veterans’ competitions, a street race, and athletics events such as shot put, long jump and tug of war.

A special part of the programme is dedicated to the youngest participants, who will have the opportunity to attend a fishing school and take part in a children’s fishing competition at Međurječje Lake.

Days of Culture and Tradition

The cultural programme includes an exhibition of artworks, a book promotion, an evening of traditional singing and folklore, as well as a concert by Viki Miljković.

The festivities will culminate on 28 August with the celebration of the Dormition of the Mother of God, the patron saint of the Municipality of Čajniče. The programme will include Holy Liturgy at the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God, a solemn procession, the traditional breaking of the Slava bread and a festive lunch.

The Velikogospjinske Festivities once again bring a rich programme and an opportunity for residents and visitors of Čajniče to come together through sport, culture and tradition.
