CONSTRUCTION OF BANJA LUKA'S FIRST CABLE CAR ANNOUNCED: WHAT WILL IT LOOK LIKE?

The Mayor of Banja Luka, Draško Stanivuković, has announced plans for a cable car to Banj Hill, a project with the potential to enhance the tourism offerings of the largest city in Republika Srpska.

CONSTRUCTION OF BANJA LUKA'S FIRST CABLE CAR ANNOUNCED: WHAT WILL IT LOOK LIKE?

Details about the construction of Banja Luka’s first cable car, including its completion timeline, are still unknown.

The cable car was originally conceived as a student project at the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Geodesy (AGGF) and was presented in October 2019. The concept was developed by AGGF students, led by Professor Miroslav Malinović, who mentioned that the idea was inspired by a project drafted 15 years earlier.

“At that time, the cable car project was not approved. We took it as an idea that students then developed into a serious study,” said Malinović.

He added that before creating the concept, they surveyed residents of Srpske Toplice and people who spend time on Banj Hill for recreation.

“Ultimately, we created a concept with two stations: a starting point near the spa in Srpske Toplice and an end station on the plateau near the monument on Banj Hill,” Malinović stated.

He noted that these two locations are less than 500 meters apart by air, which would keep the construction costs lower.

However, the City Administration has not disclosed whether the realization of the cable car will follow the AGGF students’ concept, which was prepared five years ago.
