A park dedicated to the great figures of Serbian healthcare will be officially opened in East Sarajevo, within the premises of the “Srbija” Hospital, as a tribute to the heroes in white coats.
According to the City Administration of East Sarajevo, the park, valued at around 650,000 KM, was built in honor of prominent Serbian healthcare workers who made great sacrifices during the Homeland Defense War.
“This project, whose implementation began in 2024 and was financed by the City of East Sarajevo, represents an important memorial site and a well-organized public space,” the statement said.
Modern features and educational panels
At the central part of the park, there is a memorial monument in the shape of a cross, along with interactive digital panels providing information about wartime hospitals, medical staff, and the number of treated wounded soldiers and civilians.
The space is designed as a multifunctional area with walking paths and various facilities.
Five wartime hospitals and 700,000 patients
During the Homeland Defense War, five wartime hospitals operated in the area of what was then known as Serbian Sarajevo: “Koran” in Pale, “Žica” in Blažuj, the Main Staff Hospital of the Army of Republika Srpska in Sokolac, as well as “Kasindo” and “Ernest Green” hospitals in Nahorevo.
Approximately 700,000 patients were treated in these facilities.
