KK RADIVOJ KORAĆ MARKS THREE DECADES OF HONOURING A BASKETBALL LEGEND

Banja Luka, the largest city in the Republic of Srpska, will once again become a meeting place for young basketball talents, sporting spirit, new friendships and memories of one of the greatest basketball players in history. From August 21 to 23, the Obilićevo Sports Hall will host the 23rd Radivoj Korać Memorial Basketball Tournament.

This year's tournament carries a special significance, as the host and organiser, Banja Luka-based KK Radivoj Korać, is celebrating three decades of existence.

“With this celebration of basketball, we once again confirm that for three decades we have remained worthy of the name of a great sportsman whose values and legacy we proudly preserve,” the club said.

Six outstanding teams will compete at this year's memorial tournament:

KK Borac (Banja Luka)

KK Igokea (Aleksandrovac)

KK Rookie (Banja Luka)

KK Max (Banja Luka)

OKK Sloboda (Užice)

KK Realway (Sarajevo)

The organisers are inviting basketball and sports enthusiasts from Banja Luka to fill the stands of the Obilićevo Sports Hall throughout the three-day tournament and support the young talents on the court.

“Under the slogan ‘30 Years Worthy of the Great Name’, we want to highlight our continuity in developing new sporting talents while preserving the memory of Korać's unforgettable contribution to basketball,” the organisers said.

Radivoj Korać, affectionately known as “Žućko”, was one of the greatest basketball players from the former Yugoslavia. With his distinctive style of play and remarkable records, he left an indelible mark on the history of the sport.

His legendary 99-point performance against Swedish club Alvik remains one of the most celebrated individual achievements in European basketball. Last summer, Korać was also inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, further confirming his place among the all-time greats.

Three decades after the founding of KK Radivoj Korać, his name continues to inspire new generations of players, while the memorial tournament remains a lasting tribute to a basketball icon and an opportunity for young talents to build their own sporting memories.
