Monastery Žitomislić, located about twenty kilometers south of Mostar, is one of the most significant Orthodox monasteries in Herzegovina.
This monastery serves as a spiritual and cultural center for Orthodox believers in the Neretva Valley.
Built in its present form in 1566, Monastery Žitomislić shares its construction year with the renowned Old Bridge in Mostar. It was established as an endowment by the old Serbian family Hrabrena Miloradović, with great respect for Orthodox tradition.
The first written records of Monastery Žitomislić are found in the Ottoman tax registers for the Bosnian Sanjak from 1468/1469 and the Herzegovina Sanjak from 1477.
Near the monastery lies an early Christian basilica from the 7th century, further testifying to the rich history and spiritual significance of this area.
