In the village of Trebovljani, on the slopes of Prosara and about 15 kilometers from the center of Gradiška, Marijana and Veljko Janković have found a peaceful oasis for their family.
Beside
the Ljutava river, on 25 acres of land, they decided to create a retreat for
their soul and named it "Livadica" to revive memories of Veljko’s
hometown.
Livadica
is Veljko's birthplace near Travnik, from where he moved with his family to
Gradiška.
"When
we bought the land in 2010, we thought we would only visit occasionally to
enjoy the nature, but the beauty of this place kept calling us back. With each
extended stay in 'Livadica', our initial idea grew into something much
bigger," Marijana Janković told RTV Gradiška.
Veljko Janković emphasized that they developed their "Livadica" step by step. Friends and family brought stones from the stream by hand to carefully lay paths, each telling its own story.
They then created a small football and
volleyball field. Over time, they built a haven for themselves, their family,
and relatives. Today, "Livadica" is a place for relaxation for many
residents of Gradiška and tourists from the European Union.
Marijana
adds that "Livadica" has turned into a small family business. In the
forest, where nature is exceptional, where the sound of birds can be heard and
deer encountered, the Janković family built several accommodations for a
comfortable stay, rest, and recreation. They started modestly, but the small
complex expanded with a pool and sports fields, creating the perfect
opportunity for rural tourism.
The
Janković family recognized and capitalized on their business opportunity in
rural tourism. Their three daughters and son are actively involved in the
"Livadica" duties, often with help from relatives when the workload
is too much. Through their example, they show how, with hard work and a clear
goal, much can be done for both their family and the community they live in.
