HOW A DENTIST BECAME A "GREAT" MAN AND HUMANITARIAN

Good people are among us, and you will recognize them by how much they help others. The association "Enrich the Heart" from East Sarajevo is currently feeding 80 hungry mouths in this city. Unfortunately, the number is growing day by day, said dentist Igor Lukić, a great humanitarian and president of the association "Enrich the Heart," during his appearance on the BN television morning program.

HOW A DENTIST BECAME A "GREAT" MAN AND HUMANITARIAN

There is no greater deed than feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, and offering mercy to the helpless. Knowing that more and more people cannot afford even a crust of bread each day, Lukić found a way to help the poor.

"Our idea was to help the socially disadvantaged residents of East Sarajevo, and we thought about a central public kitchen. However, this idea emerged during the pandemic, and because of the scattered municipalities, we came up with a better option to deliver meals directly to the users' addresses," said Dr. Lukić.

Since our users are proud people who might not visit a public kitchen often, I believe this option is much better. The central kitchen would have to be in one place, and the municipalities are distant, so people wouldn't be able to come. For example, some live in Krupac, some in Vojkovići, and Petrovići," he explained.

At the beginning of this humanitarian story, there were 40 users. However, as food prices skyrocketed and needs grew, the number of people for whom food is a luxury also increased. Now, around 80 people receive quality, fresh, and lovingly prepared meals at their doors every day.

"Given that the citizens of East Sarajevo are very humane, with daily donations, individual contributions, and some small businesses, we have managed to overcome significant problems. We receive daily deposits into our account and pay the restaurant that prepares these meals," Lukić emphasized.

Good deeds multiply. One humanitarian story, like a domino effect, leads to another. More and more people are becoming part of this beautiful yet sad reality.

"We have friends in some companies who help us in every way. If the shelf life is about to expire in a few days or months, they pass the goods to us, and since meals are delivered daily to users, we manage to use these short-term goods by delivering them every day," said Igor Lukić.

To reach more people, get them involved, and help, a humanitarian number has been launched. It is active for operators in BiH at 17049 – those who want to can donate 2KM, which will surely be used for some soup, stew, pie, sarma, and hot bread.
