On the hill of Borovcu in Orahovica, near Srebrenica, the remains of the foundation of an Orthodox church were discovered in 2015.
In 2021, the site was consecrated and protected.
Ivana Grujić, the project leader of the archaeological
research, determined that the church whose foundations were uncovered dates
back to the late antiquity or early Middle Ages, linking it to the reign of the
Byzantine emperors Justinian and Heraclius, around the 6th-7th century.
During the excavation, remnants of a church measuring 13 by
7 meters were discovered. These remains have been arranged, preserved, and
covered, and the site will serve for religious ceremonies as well as a tourist
destination, highlighting the presence of Orthodoxy in this area over 15
centuries ago.
